After working as a commercial broadcaster, he became the mayor of Fukuoka City in 2010 at the age of 36, becoming the youngest in history. Since then, he has consistently achieved the highest number of votes in history each time he has been re-elected, and he is currently serving his fourth term. He has led Fukuoka City to rank first among government ordinance-designated cities in terms of population growth and growth rate, municipal tax revenue growth rate, and business opening rate.
Utilizing the National Strategic Special Zone, he implemented numerous deregulation measures, including startup visas. Additionally, he established the Startup City Promotion Council, significantly advancing the Japanese startup scene. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the government's impact consortium and Invest Japan.
